A year later, I was still going strong being celibate and it was hard. I felt new and I was being blessed with a lot of things. I didn’t want lust in my life anymore; I was ready to be loved. I was at the point of my life where I was getting older and more mature. I was feeling complete as a woman but I was just missing a good man. The spring semester was over and I was officially a senior. I was so excited because I was about to get my bachelor’s degree. All the hard work paid off and I was ready for the future which I’m sure includes the perfect guy.

It was a hot Thursday on June 2nd, 2005. I had just got off of work from a 10 hour shift. After work Tamika and I decided to go shoe shopping for her cousin’s wedding this weekend. We went to our favorite shoe store (Styles) at the Wilson Plaza. I tried on several shoes because I am very picky person when it comes to shoes. Tamika was acting a straight fool in the store because they didn’t have her size in a particular shoe she wanted.

“Miss, I can order the shoe for you, but you have to come get it tomorrow.” The lady said.

“Look. I don't have time for tomorrow,” Tamika said with an attitude.

“I need a shoe that can make the color of my dress pop. I have to coordinate.”

“Okay coordinate.”

Tamika has big feet and it sometimes hard for her to get shoes. While she kept arguing with the lady, I looked out the window laughing, and saw this handsome man walking passed the store.

He walked so fast from the window that I only saw his beautiful smile. When he walked by, my heart started to race real fast. All I could do was stare out of the window.

“Crystal.....Crystal ....you ready to go?” Tamika nudged me back down to earth.

“I am girl. Let’s go before you get us kicked out of our favorite store.”

“Nah, she was getting smart with me. She just don’t know, I’ll fuck her up.”

“Come on girl.” I laughed. We walked out of the store. When I looked to the left, I seen him again.

“Tamika look.”

“Girl, damn. Now I see why you were staring out of the window. He fine as hell.”

“He is. Isn’t he? But you know how men are nowadays. They can be the cutest and have the worst attitude towards women.”

“Crystal, you still doing this?”

“What do I do Tamika?”

“You know what you do? Damn. You’re always downing men, especially the black ones. You are still haunted by your past, and the only way you will face your fears is to give another man a try. I mean, so what you had a terrible experience, and Marcus might have been the right one for you, but you weren’t ready! It was a test from God it happens all the time. Now that you are ready you should start giving men a chance again.
